Interview with Toni ta’ l-Arloggi

RAMONA PORTELLI from okmalta.com interviewed Toni ta’ l-Arloggi (real name Anthony Borg). He is 39 years old, grew up in Birkirkara, but later moved to Attard where he still lives with both his parents. 
At the moment he owns a watch shop in Qormi, which has been his full-time for the past 14 years. Nowadays, he is a lot more into radio broadcasting.
Way back in the year 2000, after being one of the first people in Malta who did teleshopping, he had this idea of starting something on radio, and this is what he is doing now !! He now manages a radio station of his own – BIG FM 107.1 FM.
How long have you been in your relationship?
I have been in my relationship for the past six years. I mean with the same person, and I am still not married.
Mention some of your latest work
I do a lot of voice overs for the European union. I am very proud that last December I did a voice job for a whole dvd, which is coming out for sale soon in all languages and they used my voice for the Maltese language. I love doing voice jobs and did some jobs for TV and TV commercials too.
What is your greatest obsession?
My greatest obsession is that some day I might loose my parents. I know that someday this will occur, but this obsession gets so much in the way, and very frequently penetrates my mind. When this occurs I try to think about something else but it is so powerful.
Do you worry about getting old?
HaHa, good one Ramona !!! Yessss, everybody gets old, but when I see that my hair has left me, and I watch photos of years gone by, yes I do worry, but I try to live day by day.
What are your weaknesses?
I don’t like to hurt people, even if I know that I will suffer, I still don’t like to hurt anyone mentally and physically, especially those people who respect me.
Do you ever feel insecure about the way you look?
To tell you the truth sometimes I do feel a little insecure about the way I look as I am a bit overweight, but then I say to myself “What the hack? I am as I am”. Who doesn’t like it can look the other side J
Have you ever kissed someone of your same sex?
Yes, as far as I know I have kissed people of the same sex, but on their cheeks!! HaHa, maybe to congratulate them for something. Believe me I am very normal.
What are your views on plastic surgery?
Plastic surgery is good in a way because science is giving people an opportunity to look younger and maybe arrange some notable defects they have. But believe me, some plastic surgery is making people all look the same – with big lips, piggy noses and stretched skin. They are so fake.
What is your opinion about same-sex marriages?
Same sex marriages HaHa. Yes I rather see two married women, than two married men !! But that’s obvious because all men like to see two women instead of two men.
What are the qualities you most admire in a woman?
Hmm – cooking HaHa. Yes, cooking, I love a woman who can cook good, but even if the food she cooks is not as good, I still appreciate the work. I love women who help their men in their jobs or work or at least who take interest in what their men do – I just love that.
What does your most ideal day consist of?
My most ideal day consists of doing my breakfast show in the morning. I love my listeners. Well, working as usual, and maybe relaxing in the evening with a vodka or 2. Outside my working day, my ideal day would be a shopping day in Dubai. I love Dubai, been there for about 10 times !!!
What are your hopes, dreams and fears for the future?

Well, dreams in the future a lot. First one, I would like to own or manage a national radio station and give the Maltese citizens a good radio based on my idea – ideas which no one has put into practice yet. Another wish I have is maybe to have a little Toni ta’ l-Arloggi or Tonia ta’ l-Arloggi who knows HaHa, and I can teach what I know to my children !!!
