RAMONA PORTELLI from okmalta.com interviewed Gianni Zammit. He is thirty seven years old, and happily un-married to his partner Kirsty – mother of his ten months old daughter (Special) Kay. Gianni runs his own business. He is a musician/rocker deep down and a lover of the band KISS.

 

He got into music 30 years ago and music is now an integral part of his life – it’s like the air he breathes. He started deejaying at private parties at the age of 13, moved to clubs and bars at the age of 16, moved to radio at the age of 20 and he’s still there. He now owns a radio station (along with great friends and partners) – Vibe FM (88.7FM). Gianni started playing guitar about 25 years ago and never stopped . Infact he owns about 35 guitars.

A highly positive, high energy, dedicated and hard working sucker !!


What do you do and how did you get into it?

I’m into organizing events and activities – I got into it about 20 years ago when I started organizing parties at university – it just kept on growing with the events getting larger and larger. Today we (jugsmalta) organize the med events, gala dinners, team building activities, fun and sports activities, conference set up etc.

 

How long have you been in your relationship?

 I’ve been 5 years with my girlfriend – yes, an absolute record !!! We’re still very much in love although since the arrival of our little monkey (mon-Kay) our love has sort of shifted to her !!

Mention some of your latest work

I flushed a beautiful work of art about 15 minutes ago … jjaaaqqqq …

What is your greatest obsession?

I’m obsessed with the band KISS – I’ve been a dedicated fan (or freak) since 1980. I’ve seen them 6 times and off to see them again in May. KISS have the largest merchandise machine in the music industry and I buy everything I can get my hands on !! I have KISS condoms, KISS deodorant, KISS money clips, KISS socks, KISS boxers, a KISS pyjama, my daughter has many KISS baby-grows, my girlfriend has tons of KISS panties, KISS guitars etc etc.

What is it that you cannot live without?

See above! he he he …. Actually, it’s probably Kay I could not live without now – altogether now (aaaaahhhhh how sweet) !

Your favourite physical feature?

Personal feature ??!!?? My roman nose !! he he he he … no ! Probably the fact that in life I don’t let anything get me down and stress me out – after all we’re here for a short period of time and I’m not going to let work or personal problems hassle me too much !

What are your weaknesses?

I’m a workaholic and I sometimes lose sight of my work/life balance.


Have you ever kissed someone of your same sex?

Yes, but not with tongue !!! But let me explain – it was a dare !!! And I got to see two girls divulge into heavy petting thanks to what I did !!! So it was all worth it !!!
 

Have you ever lied to your partner or your ex?

The most current lie is “I promise I didn’t buy anything of KISS again” and then ‘surprisingly’ the postman delivers another package to my door !! I’ve struck a good deal with my girlfriend now … for every cent I spend on KISS I put away and save the same amount for Kay – she’s going to be ssooo rich by the age of 18 !!!!
 What is your opinion about same-sex marriages?

I don’t think love is restricted to a male-female format and I’m very liberal and open minded.

What’s your sense of style and what do you wear on a daily basis?

I’m a firm believer in comfort so whatever I wear I must be comfortable in. I’m a big fan of the jeans, t-shirt and trainers combo. I wouldn’t consider myself a fashion guru but a girl once taught me that you never exceed 3 colors – so I like to keep things cool and simple.

What does your most ideal day consist of?

An ideal day would a day lazing about at home till midday, then going out for a picnic with family and friends, then a good gig with the band in the evening ! The next morning hopping onto a plane and off for breakfast to the KISS Coffeehouse (in America !), go to a KISS concert (obviously go backstage and meet the band and share a few laughs and ‘borrow’ all their guitars) and then back home !!

What are your hopes, dreams and fears for the future?

Hopes – to always have a smile on my face and do my best to put a smile on all those around me.

 Dreams – to achieve what I set out to do.

 Fears – Fear can eat you from the inside and I don’t want any of that – so I have no real fears.

Finally, everyone is asking what happened to Abel & Elinor lately. Are they joing Vibe FM Radio soon?

 Hehehe….Jonathan Abel is joining Vibe FM. I don’t have all the details of what show etc, but he’s on board !! (big smile)
